The Fallout series had to move out of the West Coast, Bethesda did a damn fine job working with the Fallout Lore up to that point (even referencing the 'Broad Strokes' that was Fallout Tactics). Hell I myself was annoyed with the bugs, but usually they died when I reset the game by logging out. I encountered few CTDs in my playthroughs as long as I keep my browser off.
Hell it is also home to one of the most awesome ideas turned mod ever: Mothership Zeta Crew mod. Current version is 1.66 but it is awesome. It mixes in some of the Fallout satire with some seriousness and makes it work. It does have some things to work out but the creator of the mod understands that and tries to work it out but there is only so much you can put into a game... then there is mods for that mod... holy shit are there addons and mods for just this mod. We got weapon and clothing mods, a MOON BASE mod, even various retex mods for the sodas and weapons! This has a very active community folks, and its all good.
Also, in the mod you get to WALK ON THE MOON! Seriously, what mod LETS YOU WALK ON THE MOON!?!
i have no idea about predecessors nevertheless FO3 deserves best RPG ever created. It makes entire Diablo series look like games made by 5-year-old. Of course, I admit that game is quite improperly balanced(main quests give EXCESSIVE experiences even before completing all side quests. besides, distributing 7-8 in intelligence before leaving vault and taking 'educated' perk asap contribute to creating OVERPOWERED character.....lastly, playing on very hard mode also gives ADDITIONAL experiences and it makes game less funny) in conclusion, developers did it correctly yet superbly, when compared with those wretched craps don't deserve the term '(video) game' made from my country.
"FO3 deserves best RPG ever created." It really doesn't considering it's RPG mechanics are limited 'at best'. New Vegas, Dragon Age, Deus Ex and from what I've heard Witcher are all superior to Fallout 3 in terms of RPG mechanics, and that's not even going into the older games, PnP games and the new kickstarter projects. Doesn't mean Fallout 3 ain't a fun game, cause it is. But none of it's RPG mechanics are particularly good and several are either missing or have been streamlined to ridiculous proportions.
ohh, i apologize for my ignorant comment. now i have been finished FNV(including all DLC+GRA+Stash)nearly three times without using cheats and can compare two games' major features, pros and cons. yes, both can not be best RPGs have ever created but still surpass tons of crappy games made from my country and this fact shames me. the reason is simple. both are so American. that means they feature pure American style while craps from my country feature nothing but lame mishmash of Japanese style and American style. i do hope you forgive my ignorant reply.
Oh when I posted that I was more ticked off at the objective statement of "best RPG ever created". Hell, had you said Fallout: A Post-Nuclear Role Playing Game was the best RPG ever created I would be just as ticked off really.
I'm kind of like a grammar nazi when to subjective and objective statements. Anyway, have you tried out the first games? Lots of people I talk to about Fallout started with Fallout 3/New Vegas and then tried out the older games and loved them. You should give them a try if you're further interested in the Fallout lore and need yourself a Fallout fix.
fyi, you should play at least one of korean crappy online rpgs to understand my feeling.....that exotic sentiment i felt when i first bought f3 goty via steam. they are very repetitive, always feature SAME game play styles(quests aren't major feature. they are only playing trivial roles in game. thus all players can do is dungeon raiding with same patterns, tedious monster killing with no reasons). are always made in low-budget. inflation is always major problem in game economy since game developers don't care about it, thus encouraging item transaction with real-world currency via either 3rd party site or secret 'smuggling'(latter works well these days since gov't started to regulate 3rd party sites help game item transaction). as i mentioned before, lore and background show nothing but crude mishmash of Japanese style and American/European style. no, developers don't care about lore at first, since they have only interested in exploitation of teenager gamers' real world money. to compensate the lack of well-written lore, developers always are adding new characters or items without enough consideration of balances thus utterly dooming the game's balance. nevertheless, at least developers care about bugs fairly frequently. exploitation of tech problems and glitches always involve heavy penalty to players. that is all.
at first, when i bought f3 via steam, it was completely different game, different experience when compared to all the other craps i have been playing. and this exotic experiences from fallout style rpgs still prejudice me, thus made me put such dumb comment. anyway, i appreciate your point, made me see more clearly bout another games
You feel a bit cheated, eh? Well, there are plenty of purist douchebags out there that agree with you, so I guess you aren't alone. I'll be here enjoying the game while you sit there feeling like an entitled asshole.
Some people have bad experiences with bugs, and a lot of people don't. So tell me, how would you bug fix something where only, say, one hundred people out of their millions of sales have a problem with? Second of all, post apocalypse mod for Oblivion? Because of what? The viewpoint? What a moron.

To be completely honest, I actually like Fallout 3 (I put 200+ hours into it), but I was playing on the 360, and there were a LOT of bugs. The visuals would frequently go haywire, with black triangles flashing on my screen, blue patterns on my screen so bad I couldn't even see ahead of me, and weird textures. The game would freeze and crash every now and then, and there was the infinite money glitch, and others I'm sure. And I meant a mod of Oblivion because the armor system is the same as Oblivion's (no Energy, Poison, Fire, or Explosive Resistances like in the older games), I've heard that the animations are the same as Oblivion's (even for power armor which is supposed to be much larger and stronger than it is in FO3).
I'm not sure when I wrote that comment, but it was likely after my game crashed, which would explain why I was so negative. Fallout 3 isn't a bad game, but it certainly could have been done better.
Your main reason why it could be better are bug problems. And I'm guessing you know that some people have a lot of problems with bugs, and some people have no problem with bugs. Me, the game has frozen a few times, and I got the black triangles thing in Vault 92 (that has been the only time though). Nothing really game breaking for me. I play it on the 360, and I barely experience any bugs.

The bug problems would make the game much better, but I think what really bothers me is how under-powered the Power Armor is. In the originals anyone with power armor was an indestructible metal monster towering above enemies, but in FO3 it was weaker, pound for pound, than combat armor, and it gave no height increase or anything. And the SPECIAL abilities were nearly useless, since you can carry about 160 pounds of gear with 1 strength, while in the originals you could only have 70 pounds. There was nothing really game-ruining, but there were a lot of small things that weren't done right in my opinion.
I don't see how 160 pounds is enough to be honest. Maybe just because I carry a bunch of different weapons. And yeah, the power armor is only slightly stronger than combat armor, but it at least seems more durable. And it looks way cooler. And don't call the abilities useless because of just Strength. They do affect conversation, though it doesn't usually matter except for roleplay reasons. And SPECIAL affects your skills as well. Perception shows you enemies on your compass when they are farther away, Endurance increases your health. Luck affects critical hits. SPECIAL does have useful affects on the game.

The SPECIAL have use, but not nearly as much as in the older games. As an example, Agility doesn't do a whole lot (the speed boost is nice but not very significant), but in the old ones Agility was crucial if you wanted to be effective in combat (since your Agility determined how many things you could do in a turn). And Intelligence (plus the Speech skill) would add huge amounts a dialog options to conversations (they still do this, but not nearly as much). Luck would affect random encounters (which were a major element of fast-traveling). Yet again, it does this in FO3, but only in a few circumstances(and not in fast-travelling). They could have made the Power Armor much more intimidating by increasing its size to what it was in the originals (which I admit would be a lot of work to make animations for, but I don't think it would be too terrible). The new Fallout games are good, but they skipped out on a lot of elements that would have pleased older fans and made the game nicer overall.
Honestly, most things that would have made the original fans more happy, are things I'm glad they didn't put in. Like making turn based combat be forced instead of optional with VATS. So, when purists like to bitch about the game (not necessarily referring to you), I'm glad they didn't get what they want. Especially since I like seeing whiny entitled assholes not get their way.
It's too bad you feel that way. I'm a fan of all the Fallouts, even the worst one (BoS), and I find they all have their ups and downs. Before Fallout 3 came out, my favorite was the first original game. I liked the extra features to the second game, but was never fond of the main story arc (being an ignorant tribal). Fallout 3 was very close in many ways to Fallout 1, and because it is/was the only Fallout to finally bring the feeling that you're actually there (rather than the detached birds-eye third person view of all the other games), it soon became my favorite of them all.
Now I'm unbelievably addicted to it, much like I was to the first one. And Woa, I can't wait to play New Vegas!
So because it changed significantly that means it isn't Fallout, because it has real time combat and a first person viewpoint? I can't even begin to describe what a fanboy you are. Where does all this Oblivion with guns bullshit come from? Because it is a first person RPG? You people make me sick to think you're gamers.
i playedthe old ones, and I've played the new one. I'd actually like to see the old ones redone with the same plot, characters, locations, items, etc, but in the newer style. I like detail, I like closeness, and I like action.
I really hate people who like the old games and hate the new one. I'd kill you people if I met you. It's next generation, not retro RPG. DEAL WITH IT! That's like saying you like Combat Evolved better than Halo 3.
I little bit agree with you - I just say : my most favorited game is Falout 2 , BUT I like that bethesda one too , its not like fallouts before and its like oblivion little bit, BUT is that wrong? NO! I also like The Elder of Scrolls series. SO WHY THE HELL MUST BE FALLOUT 3 BAD GAME ? just because it did bethesda? come on ! its just diferent, not worse . I like both first two Fallout and third one. Fallout 2 was brilliant game , but they just cant do next Fallouts like first or second. Its mainstream - they cant earn much money from games like before. I dont care how game looks like or how gameplay it has. if its good game and I have fun with it I will play it . so stop being childish and give that game a chance. btw sry for english
